I wanted to personally give you a recap on what happened at the OSGA Fall Congress. Fall Congress was held at the Oklahoma State Capitol on November 13, 2010. We had record attendance with close to 100 student leaders from across the state of Oklahoma. The First Session of the 30th Annual Session was gaveled to order by Matthew Heggy from Southeastern Oklahoma State University. The Congress Vice-Chair was Thomas Schneider from Oklahoma State University. The Congress Secretary was shared by multiple students throughout the day. The first thing the delegates did after opening remarks from the Congress Chair and OSGA President was head to Committee Meetings. There were four committees with three of them focusing on legislation dealing with the OSGA Constitution. The fourth committee dealt with a resolution regarding student rights on college and university campuses.

The delegates went to lunch after committees at IL Trattoria in Downtown Oklahoma City. This location provided an elegant atmosphere for the delegates to relax and refocus for the upcoming General Session. Following lunch, Congress gaveled back into Session to get to the legislation that was passed in committees. The first piece of legislation was a resolution regarding student rights on campus. It was authored by Nolan Lawless from Southwestern Oklahoma State University and it received a majority of votes. That resolution is attached and labeled “Students Rights Resolution”. Congress spent the rest of the General Session legislating over the OSGA Constitutional Amendments. In total, there were nine bills and there were over 20 amendments to that legislation. Eventually all the legislation was passed and consolidated into one proposed Constitution. This Constitution need to be ratified by at least 13 member institutions in order to go into effect and it will be the goal over the upcoming weeks and months to do that. I would encourage you to take the attached Constitution back to your institution and write a resolution to ratify this document. If it is ratified please send me a copy of the final resolution so that I may add your institution to the list of ratifying institutions.

In addition to the legislation, we also filled three open positions on the OSGA Board of Directors and one position on the Student Advisory Board. Congratulations to Jason Robison from the University of Oklahoma for being elected OSGA Secretary, Crystal LaGrone from Oklahoma State University – Tulsa for being elected OSGA Publicity Director, and Sofia Price from Tulsa Community College – Southeast Campus for being elected Northeast Regional Director.

The last piece of information that needs to be mentioned is that the OSGA Board of Directors hosted presentations from two institutions that submitted applications to host the OSGA Spring Congress. I am happy to announce that Spring Congress will be hosted at OSU-Tulsa on April 8-9. Look for more information to come out in the upcoming months. If you have any questions or comments about the events that took place at Fall Congress or any questions about OSGA in general please do not hesitate to contact me at the information provided below! I hope you have a great semester and we look forward to seeing you at Spring Congress in Tulsa!
